- Nomenclatural Comment
- Lachnum palmae and L. pritzelianum as reported by Spooner for Australasia are very simialr both morphologically and biologically. New Zealand collections ffrom nikau appear to have a range of ascospore sizes that cover both species, but apart from spore size the ex nikau collections are more or less identical for macroscopic appearance (often with browninh exudate on hiars, supposedly characteristic on L. palmae), in the long-cylindric excipular cells with thickly agglutinated walls, paraphyses broad and barely tapering to the apex.
- Taxonomic Comment
- Based on ITS sequences closely related to 'Lachnellula' rhopalostylidis, both perhaps belonging in Erioscyphella sp.; the thick-walled excipular cells fit for this genus, cf Tanaka & Hosoya (2001) [PRJ, Aug 2019]
