Nomenclatural Comment
Craven et al. 2011 quite stated that Hibiscus trionum s.s. is not present in Australasia – the plant in New Zealand referred to by that name in past treatments seems to be unnamed (or at least it has yet to be matched to any taxon within the Bladder Ketmia group) and it is not in Australia, Africa, USA, or Oceania as such it was treated as H. aff. trionum “New Zealand diploid naturalised race”. It is not H. trionum. That plant is diploid not tetraploid (as in H. trionum s.s. and H. trionum s.l. outside Australasia) and although it was thought to be naturalised here we now have evidence to suggest that it may well be endemic.
