- Holotype: AK 371296, (ASN337), collected by L. Liggins on 10 April 2013; deposited in the Herbarium of Auckland Museum (AK), Auckland, New Zealand. GenBank accession numbers: psbA, MK318550.1; rbcL, MK318542.1., The epithet korowai was chosen in reference to this species resembling the hukahuka (tassels) on a traditional Maori korowai (cloak).
