- The protologue for Lithocarpus edulis is so variably cited that whether this is even the correct publication is not clear., There appears to be some confusion about the basionym of Lithocarpus edulis. It has been cited as both Quercus edulis and Pasania edulis. However, although they have been cited from consecutive pages of Botanical Magazine [Tokyo], it is clear both from the English title and the taxonomy (also in English) that Quercus edulis was intended as the nom. nov. for Siebold and Zuccarini's Quercus glabra. "Pasania edulis m" was mentioned at the end of a paragraph apparently discussing Pasania and Quercus on p. 39.
