Nomenclatural Comment
Originally reported from New Zealand as M. formosensis, a species described from Rubus formosensis from Taiwan. A comparison with the description provided by Hansford (1961) shows that the New Zealand fungus from Rubus cissoides does not match M. formosensis. The ascospores of M. formosensis are reported as 4-septate, 30-37 x 12-13 µm, whereas the New Zealand specimens (PDD 23544, 77309) have 3-septate ascospores about 55-65 x 18-22 µm. This fungus matches none of the species reported from Rubus in Hansford (1961) and perhaps represents an undescribed, endemic species of Meliola.
