- Neotype NRRL 1469 (Designated by Ellis, 1985). Registration Identifier 596673, perhaps best considered as based on an atypically developed Rhizopus oryzae, fide Domsch et al. 1980
- Taxonomic Comment
- Previously recorded as a dubious name in NZFUNGI based on the concept of an atypically developed Rhizopus oryzae, fide Domsch et al. 1980. However this species was neotypified in 1985 by J.J. Ellis. DNA sequences clearly show the synonomy of R. arrhizus and R. oryzae. Rhizopus arrhizus is the oldest available name for this species. In NZ compare with the missapplied name Rhizopus arrhizus sensu G. Cunn. 1925 which is correctly Rhizopus stolonifer (Ehrenb.) Vuill. 1902
