Named for Archibald Menzies, ship’s surgeon on the Vancouver Expedition 1791–1795., Lectotype (designated by Allan 1961): New Zealand. Dusky Bay, 1791, A. Menzies s.n. (K, image). Please note that Heenan & Smissen 2013 state "1781" as the collection date for the specimen designated as Lectotype. Hooker (1844) gives the date for this collection from Dusky Bay as 1791.
