Nomenclatural Comment
In the Kew herbarium filed under Glomerella cingulata on the basis of an Aptroot annotation slip. There are several fungi present on these leaves: - the most common one forms masses of small, globose, immersed fruiting bodies in discrete but extensive areas on fallen leaves. Checked spors - is a Phyllosticta sp. The spores do not match those drawn on the packet. - the second (image DSC 0567.jpg) has larger, more deeply immersed, but perhaps becoming erumpent, more widely spaced fruiting bodies. This could be a Glomerella, apparently unitunicate asci, large, hyaline, 0-septate ascospores, broad elliptic-fusoid in shape, not curved. Not G. cingulata. Again, this does not match the spores illustrated. Cooke described a fungus with ascospores 1-septate, 10 x 2.5 um - matches neither of these fungi, but could well represent another species present on thne same leaves? There are also things on the leaves that look a lot like Mycosphaerella anamorph conidiophores. [PRJ, August 2010], On leaves of Panax crassifolia.
