- Holotype: Cuvier Island, 27 Jan. 1972, P.F. Jenkins, AK 288257–288259!, Named in honour of Harry Carse (1857–1930), British-born school-teacher and amateur botanist who collected extensively in Northland around the turn of the 20th century, and who had a particular interest in Pteris.
