Taxonomic Comment
Zygosaccharomyces bailii was split into three species: Z. bailii, Z. parabailii, and Z. pseudobailii in 2013. The three species appear to be functionally indistinguishable, with physiological tests showing that variation exists more frequently between individual strains and the patterns are not species-specific (Suh et al. 2016 DOI:10.1099/ijs.0.048058-0). The split of Zygosaccharomyces bailii into three species was solely based on variations in DNA sequences. [B. Weir, 2020]
