This sp. is probably conspecific with Boletus coccineus Fr., Epicr. Syst. Mycol.: 423, 1838 [nom. illegit., non Boletus coccineus Bull. 1791], and the Australian sp., Boletellus pallescens (Cooke & Massee) J.-E.Gilbert, is possibly synonymous, fide Singer, Araujo & Ivory 1983, p. 154.
