- Arnaud 1953 - Pyricularia caricis (2-septate condia, apical locus = dactylaria sp.1). Luttrell 1954 - Pyricularia higinsii (2-septate conidia, apical locus = dactylaria sp.1). Macgarvie 1968 - Pyricularia juncicola (1-septate conidia, apical locus= dactylaria sp.2). Matsushima 1975 - Pyricularia caricis (2-septate conidia, acropleurogenous = pyricularia sp.1). Matsushima says his is same as P. higginsii. It isn't - apical v. pleurogenous. Ditto equivalence with P. caricis Arnaud. de Hoog, 1985 SIM - Figures Pyricularia juncicola (Fig. 67) as 2-septate, semi-acropleurogenous (non sensu Macgarvie, and a Pyricularia). And P. higinsii (fig. 68) as 1-septate apical. It seems likely Fig 67 and 68 are reversed? From original descriptions it appears P. higinsii is the same as Arnaud's invalid name, with the correct name D. higinsii. Pyricularia juncicola is a Dactylaria (D. junci). P. caricis sensu Matsushima remains without a valid name, and his synonymy with P. carcis Arnaud and P. higinsii is rejected. [JAC], published as validation of Pyricularia caricis G.
