Nomenclatural Comment
Dixon (1914) tentatively referred this name to synonymy with Dicranella jamesonii (Mitt.) Broth.. He further wrote "no specimen can be found of Dicranum waimakaririense in R.Brown's collection, but from the description and figures it may, I think, very safely be referred here [to Dicranella jamesonii (Mitt.) Broth.]" However, Fife (2019) excluded Dicranella jamesonii from New Zealand. He wrote: The misapplication of the name D. jamesonii (Mitt.) Broth. to the plant that is in this Flora termed D. schreberiana (Hedw.) H.A.Crum & L.E.Anderson appears to date from the discussion of Dixon (1914, p. 66)., The epithet waimakaririense refers to the type locality (River Waimakariri).
