Kirk 330a, Jan. 1890, CHR-Beckett!, Fife (1996) appers to have erroneously cited S. lonchocladum Müll.Hal., Flora 82: 436 (1896) as a synonym of S. australe,with a type from Antipodes Islands ( T. Kirk 330a, Jan. 1890, CHR-Beckett!) However, in Müller's paper it is clearly stated "Habitatio. Insulae Hwaiicae, sine loci special: Dr. W .Hillebrand."
